Frank's Photo Gallery

I took the following photos during my trip to Australia in 1996. I hope you'll enjoy them.

In any Australian national park, the rules were: Take nothing but pictures - leave nothing but footprints. So I took - and left - this picture...

Crimson Rosella

This first bird is a Crimson Rosella photographed in the Green Mountains. The hand - and the sandwich - belongs to Ellis Thornley, from Birkdale, near Brisbane, Australia.

Fraser Island - Lake

Fraser Island is a very beautiful place, but the trip I took was rather dull: On the bus, off the bus, take picture, back on the bus again, etc all day...

Fraser Island - Beach Sand

Why not?

Fraser Island - Highway 1 (the beach)

One of the beaches on Fraser Island has been designated Highway 1, in order for trafic rules to apply. It is used mainly by speeding fourwheel-drives full of tourists and as a landing strip for small planes - also with tourists.

Whitehaven Beach - Whitsunday Island

Ugly, isn't it?

The Iluka - cruising the Whitsundays

Best trip I did in Australia was a three day cruise on the Iluka out of Airlie Beach. This photo shows the Iluka from one of the islands where we went ashore.

Spotted Dove - The Esplanade, Cairns

Pelican - The Esplanade, Cairns

Black Kite - Townsville

Zebra Finch - Tennant Creek

This Zebra Finch male I found just north of Tennant Creek. I had rented a bike and was heading out to the Mary Ann Dam, 6 km north of Tennant Creek, when I suddenly heard the distinctive sound of Zebra Finches. His 'wife' was watching me from outside the nest:

Pheasant Coucal - Casuarina Beach, Casuarina, Darwin

When I was walking trough the park next to Casuarina Beach, I noticed the way people looked at me and my camera. It looked as if they were thinking: "How rude!". I found out why a little later when I saw the sign reading: "Casuarina Nudist Beach"...

Forrest Kingfisher - Casuarina Beach, Casuarina, Darwin

Rainbow Lorikeet - Darwin

These are very attractive birds, but don't stand underneath a tree full of them in your best clothes. They eat a lot of liquid food - need I say more?.

Near Jim Jim Falls - Kakadu National Park

Butterfly - Darwin

White Breasted Sea Eagle (captive) - Northern Territory Wildlife park

Long Tailed Finches - Holmes Jungle Nature Park, near Darwin

Crocodile - Yellow Waters, Kakadu National Park

Jabiru - Yellow Waters, Kakadu National Park

Sign - Kakadu National Park

These signs were posted everywhere in Kakadu National Park, especially next to the water where we all went swimming.

Crimson Finch (female) - Kununurra

Galahs - Alice Springs

Ayers Rock

The Olgas

Tree - Kings Canyon

Magpie - Belair National Park, Adelaide

Eastern Rosella - Belair National Park, Adelaide

Blue-winged Kookaburra

The Sydney Opera House - Sydney

Leura Cascades - Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sulphur Crested Cockatoo - Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Tern - Byron Bay

Beach - Byron Bay

Byron Bay is supposed to be Heaven for Surfers (much like Surfers Paradise which is a bit north of Byron Bay). Why, I don't know - this is what it looked like while I was there...

Opera House, Bridge and J24-yacht - Sydney
